Bedtime stories

Just wanted to share something that happened while I was away on a weekend cruise.

While every mother gets excited to go for a short getaway, we always worry about the kids at home no matter what. I’m lucky to get invited for weekend cruises occasionally, and try to get a little me-time and breather from motherhood.

But no matter what, I still worry about how the kids are, and would make sure to get Wi-Fi on the ship so I can communicate with Joshua at least. I would also check the home cameras for a peace of mind.

With Kaitlyn growing up so fast, and the age gap between the two, I have asked Joshua to spend more time with her as she really adores him. While he does play with her, he’s like a typical teen who is more absorbed in his own interests, currently phone games and solving the Rubik’s cube in the fastest time possible.

So imagine my surprise when I received a video on Whatsapp from Joshua while I was away. He had taken an old storybook of his, “Brown Bear Brown Bear“, and was reading to Kaitlyn at bedtime. He knew that I normally read to her at bedtime, but seeing I was away, he decided to do so instead.

Sharing a small part of the video (he was recording this to share with me while reading to her…pardon the shakiness) below:

My heart just melted!!

Kaitlyn was so happy and I think it made her bedtime really special. I later went in to check on the home camera log and watched it again and again, loving every second of that sweet moment that they may soon forget, but I never will.

There are many little ways to enlarge your child’s world. Love of books is the best of all.
